Seshadri Tirunillai is a Ph.D. candidate at the Marshall School of Business. He received his bachelor’s degree with honors in Electrical and Electronics Engineering in 1999 from BITS-Pilani, India. He completed his masters in management from the School of Management, Indian Institute of Technology-Bombay. Before entering the Ph.D. program, he served as a full time faculty member at BITS-Pilani, India. His dissertation focuses on online media; especially on the impact of user-generated content on performance of the firm. His first essay seeks to examine which metrics of UGC are most important by investigating which of them has the strongest relationship with stock returns and what are the dynamics of this relationship.  In a second essay, he develops a statistical model to extract the salient dimensions of product quality from UGC and derive a summary measure of consumer experienced quality.  His other research interests include using online platforms for marketing and assessing the financial value of a firm’s marketing activities. He has experience working in both the engineering and technology industries. His active research has been well received in academic conferences. He has won honors such as the Best paper based on a doctoral dissertation at the European Marketing Academy Conference (EMAC) 2009 and an honorable mention for the Shankar-Spiegel Award instituted by Direct Marketing Educators Foundation. He also authored a book chapter on the impact of information technology on Indian business sectors. He is a USC Teaching Assistant Fellow, has served as a teaching assistant to the MBA core Marketing course and an instructor for the undergraduate introductory marketing course.
